The ReTweetability of URL Shorteners and More
Fast Company offers us a sneak peek at Dan Zarrella's report "The Science of Retweeting" which includes a lot of interesting, if not always surprising, statistics. The retweetability of URL shorteners was one of my favorite highlights. As you can see blip.fm, twitpic.com and tinyurl.com received negative results. However, I am far from surprised that people are not retweeting what song I'm listening to at the moment but do wonder if these results account for the differences in usage. For instance, bit.ly is definitely one of the most popular services, so is it a surprise that it has the highest use in retweets?
Either way Zarrella's got the goods on retweeting and here are some more great tips:
- Don't be stupid. Use less abbrevs and emoticions.
- Use punctuation, just not semicolons. Semicolons = Satan.
- Keep it original.
- Use nouns, proper nouns and 3rd-person verbs.
- Tweet at 4 p.m. on Friday. Friday is the busiest day on Twitter and there are more RTs too.
